Anna Rocket: The Talented Young Lady from Atlanta

Anna released her debut single ‘The War’ on 3rd June.  This small lovely young lady has maybe this talent that some others are desperately looking for without finding it.  She is an excellent lyricist, musician, singer and she hopefully will find her way to success very soon.

Hey Anna, thank you for your kindness! You’re a brand new artist in the world of music, but where do you come from?  Who are you?

Hello Patricia! Thank you for taking such an interest in my music. I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia and I go by the name Anna Rocket, « Rocket » for short.

Do you play any instruments?

I do! I took piano lessons as a young girl and stuck with it. It’s my « go to » instrument whenever I have a song idea.

What is your musical background?  Which bands or singers did influence you the most?

I grew up in a house full of rock n’ roll records and beat up drum sets. My father was, and still is, a touring musician, so I was constantly around all kinds of music as a child and teenager. When I was younger, I would sing to Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Queen, Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett, The Rolling Stones… the list is endless. But I have always been drawn to rock & pop artists.

Why did you choose to become a musician?

I didn’t choose music. Music chose me.

You made a beautiful cover of Thirty Seconds to Mars’s ‘Hurricane’, why this choice?

Thank you! It was very ‘out of the blue’. A friend of mine heard a cryptic cover I did of Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ and suggested ‘Hurricane’ as my next. I had never heard the song, but when I did, I really gravitated to it. A few friends and I got together and ended up spontaneously covering it in my living room. Next thing I knew, I had friends and fans sending me messages and emails asking where they could download it. We got such an amazing response, we recorded a video.

Do you belong to the Echelon?

I am a more recent fan of 30 Seconds To Mars. I knew of them years ago, but only started really listening to them when they released their last album.

I discovered you thanks to Bonaventure and their video ‘I Dare You’. How did you meet them ?

I met Andy right around the time his last band, Holiday Parade, was releasing their final EP and I met Dan shortly after that. It was just before Bonaventure really began. Andy is from Atlanta, which is where I currently live. We had a lot of mutual friends and we also worked with the same producers (ZK Productions.) I was very honored that they asked me to be a part of their first music video. It is extremely difficult to find genuine and honest music these days. I will support them in any way I can.

Are you planning to collaborate on future songs?

I hope so! Of course I have my dream collaborations, but I always love writing with my friends. I’m sure some really interesting collaborations will happen in the future.

Your debut single was released on 3 June, are you working on an album?

I am working on an EP. No release date is set yet.

Do you write your music and lyrics?

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What is your dream in life?

I have many dreams. It is hard to sum it up into one. But if I had to, I would say to be a light to the lost. It has always been in my blood to help others. Reaching people & really connecting to them through my music is most certainly a dream of mine.

In order to know you better, I would like you to answer the Proust Questionnaire.  It’s a questionnaire that was traditionally proposed by Bernard Pivot, who hosted a very well known TV show here in France called « Apostrophe », and then, a few years later, by James Lipton, in his TV show « Inside the Actor’s Studio ».  It was a tradition for them to ask these questions to their guests at the very end of their shows.

What is your favorite word?

I have such a fascination with words. I have loved writing for many years, so my favorite word tends to vary by the mood I am in. The first one that comes to mind is ‘breathe’. I have it tattooed on my wrist. I like it because it reminds me to be patient and stay calm in moments of worry or stress.

What is your least favorite word?

Swag. Too much…

What turns you on?

Leather.

What turns you off?

Rudeness and too many muscles. If one of your arms is bigger than my entire body, there is something wrong.

What sound or noise do you love?

I love the sound high heels make when walking on hard wood or concrete floors. You’ll have to excuse me, my ‘fashionista’ is showing…

What sound or noise do you hate?

I cannot stand the sound of silverware touching each other. It gives me the worst kind of chills.

What is your favorites curse word?

They are all the same to me.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I have always been very interested in videography. I tried it about a year ago, but decided to focus on my music instead. I am a very visual person. Creating motion pictures in my head and bringing them to life is something I feel like I would really enjoy.

What profession would you not like to do?

Teaching math. I am horrible at it.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

‘You’ve done well’.
